Medellín Weddings: Venues, Planners and the City of Eternal Spring

Medellín is known as the City of Eternal Spring: the average temperature is about 22 °C (72 °F), and it usually stays between 17 and 28 °C (63–82 °F). That makes it one of the few places where you can plan a garden wedding in almost any month. It’s also a city used to international weddings: around 40% of weddings in Antioquia and on the Caribbean coast involve international or binational couples, according to industry figures reported by Portafolio in 2026.

Below you’ll find Medellín wedding venues and planners from the LOVIA directory, plus tips on weather, getting there and the legal side.

Why Medellín works for a destination wedding

  • Mild weather. The city sits in the Aburrá Valley at about 1,500 meters (4,900 feet), so it’s neither tropical-hot nor cold.
  • City or mountains in one trip. Celebrate at a hotel or rooftop in the city, or at a hacienda in the hills.
  • Nonstop flights. José María Córdova International Airport, in Rionegro east of the city, has nonstop flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York (JFK) and Houston, among others. Check current schedules, as routes change by season.
  • Everything in one city. Medellín and its surroundings have the largest share of LOVIA’s listings: venues, caterers, photographers, florists and planners, so you can build your whole team here.

Medellín wedding venues: in the city or up in the hills

  • In the city. Hotels, event halls, rooftops and restaurants, for an urban wedding or a small dinner after a civil ceremony.
  • Las Palmas and Santa Elena. On the mountains east of the city, Santa Elena reaches about 2,650 meters (8,700 feet). Country houses and fincas with gardens, and noticeably cooler nights.
  • Rionegro, Llanogrande, La Ceja and El Retiro. The plateau east of Medellín, near the airport, is cool: around 18 °C (64 °F) in La Ceja and 16 °C (61 °F) in El Retiro. This is hacienda country, with lawns, mountain views and plenty of space for a tent.
  • Warmer options. West of Medellín, Santa Fe de Antioquia (about 28 °C, or 82 °F) is a colonial town and national monument, and San Jerónimo averages about 25 °C (77 °F). Guatapé, with its reservoir, is a popular weekend destination east of the city.

Wedding planners in Medellín

A planner in Medellín books the venue and vendors, handles contracts in Spanish, plans guest transportation into the hills and runs the day. Some work in English and some only in Spanish, so ask in your first message. Also ask what’s included, how vendor payments work, and how they plan for rain at an outdoor venue.

Weather and timing for a Medellín wedding

Medellín is mild all year, but rain can come in any season. For an outdoor ceremony, ask the venue for a covered plan B or a tent. In the higher areas, like Santa Elena and the Rionegro plateau, nights get cold: ask whether there’s an enclosed room or patio heaters, and tell guests to pack a jacket.

ProColombia lists December, November, March and August as high season for destination weddings in Colombia. If your date falls then, book the venue first and the rest of your team right after. Before signing, ask how long the drive is for your guests, whether there’s parking, and what time the music has to stop.

Getting legally married in Medellín

Foreigners can marry in a civil ceremony before a Colombian notary with passports, apostilled birth certificates, proof of single status and official Spanish translations. Notaries set some rules of their own, such as how recent the documents must be or whether one partner has to live in the city. Requirements can change; confirm with the notary before booking flights.

Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Medellín. See the document list in our destination wedding guide.

What is the weather like for a wedding in Medellín?
Medellín averages about 22 °C (72 °F) and usually stays between 17 and 28 °C, which is why it's called the City of Eternal Spring. Rain can fall in any season, so plan a covered backup. How do guests fly to Medellín from the U.S.?
Medellín's José María Córdova International Airport is in Rionegro, east of the city. It has nonstop flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York (JFK) and Houston, among others, and routes change by season. There's no single price. Nationwide, ProColombia found that more than 40% of foreign weddings fall between US$20,000 and US$50,000. In Medellín, the total depends on guest count, venue type, catering per person, date and vendors such as photography and music. A hacienda outside the city adds guest transportation.
